A growing and versatile style of binding. Like wire binding, the paper is punched prior to binding and then the coil is turned into the holes like a corkscrew. The plastic coil is then crimped secure ate each end with the special pliers. This style of binding has overtaken comb biding and is often preferred when used by young children rather than wire. Pages can be turned 360 degrtees and is a strong alternative to wire binding. The only downside to coilbinding is that the oposing pages come out of register when opening due to the corkscrew effect opening. However coils are still used in the majority of road maps available despite this.
